Shari’a Law and Military Operations Seminar
Description:
At the International Institute of Higher Studies in Criminal Sciences (ISISC), Siracusa, Italy This seminar is offered because of its immediate importance to NATO’s ongoing missions: the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF), Operation Unified Protector, Kosovo Force (KFOR), support to the African Union mission in Somalia (NSM Somalia) and for the African Standby Force, NATO Training Mission–Afghanistan (NTM-A) and NATO Training Mission–Iraq (NTM-I); and NATO’s numerous supporting relationships with Mediterranean Dialogue countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Mauretania, Morocco and Tunisia), Istanbul Cooperation Initiative countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar) and other countries such as Pakistan where Shari’a Law applies. The goal of this seminar is to provide instruction to military officers, legal advisors, operational planners, political and policy advisors by internationally pre-eminent scholars on Shari’a. The seminar will offer an introduction to Shari’a Law, specifically discussing crime and punishment in the Sharica, law of armed conflict, religiously motivated political violence, women’s and minorities’ rights and operational issues. The proposed schedule is attached to this notice.
