2018 NACDL Midwinter Meeting & Seminar

Description

What better place than New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, to learn the core structure, composition, and technique of effective voir dire, and the improvisation skills necessary to perform at the highest level to select the perfect jury as your audience?

Don’t take the stage without a rehearsal. Prepare for your set by joining NACDL in New Orleans— so you can select, connect, and win them over to the tune of “Not Guilty!”

This seminar will help you improve your stagecraft by addressing cutting-edge methods of jury selection and persuasion, and teach you how to voir dire using the modern art of jury de-selection; which many feel is the most effective way to select a jury that will be open to your theory of the case. Nationally known trial lawyers and consultants will discuss specific voir dire questions and techniques on difficult topics ranging from race, to immigration, to child sexual assault. You will learn how to make the most of technology in jury selection from conducting online research on prospective jurors, to technology tools you can use for tracking jurors.

Other topics will include the current state of social science research as it pertains to jury behavior, strategies for getting your judge to give up control of voir dire and how to best mount challenges for cause to save your preemptory challenges.

In addition to plenary lectures, participants will have the opportunity to practice improvising voir dire techniques in small group breakouts, questioning real jurors, with coaching from outstanding lawyers who regularly teach at the National Criminal Defense College.

Make plans today to join your nationwide colleagues in New Orleans!
